Clean Slate Laser
7 years of Google Sheets data, finally fast.
The client.
Clean Slate Laser is a laser hair-removal clinic in Bali, Indonesia. Like a lot of small service businesses, the entire operation — every customer, every appointment, every dollar, going back seven-plus years — lived in a single Google Sheet.
The sheet had grown the way these things grow: one tab at a time, one formula at a time, for the better part of a decade. Nobody designed it. It just accumulated.
The problem.
The sheet took the better part of a minute just to open. Formulas chained into other formulas across years of tabs, and changing one cell could quietly break math three tabs away. The owner had stopped trusting it — and mostly stopped touching it.
That's a dangerous place to keep seven years of customer and financial data: too important to delete, too fragile to use.
What I built.
- Restructured the data into clean, separate sheets. Customers, appointments, and financials each got their own clean home instead of one mega-tab.
- Archived the dead data. Years of stale rows moved to a safe archive — out of the working file, never deleted.
- Rebuilt the formulas. The chained, fragile math got replaced with formulas that don't collapse when a row is added.
- Added summary tabs. The questions the owner actually asks — revenue by month, repeat customers — now have a tab that answers them.
- Wrote a one-page "how to use this" guide. Plain English, so the owner can edit with confidence instead of fear.
The result.
What used to take the better part of a minute now opens in seconds. No data lost — every row from seven years of business is still there, just in a structure that can carry it.
Honest scale: this didn't add revenue or change the business model. It gave the owner back a tool they'd been afraid of, which at a one-person-office scale is worth more than it sounds. The owner edits the sheet again. That was the whole job.
"I'd been scared to even open it. Now I can edit without breaking things."
